The Free History Project (FHP)

The Free History Project is a 501c3, film production, distribution and educational outreach organization. Its mission is to advance knowledge of media, history, and humanities based-subjects, through independent documentary film and education.

The Free History Project (FHP) was founded in 2001 on the belief that documentary film can overcome cultural, socioeconomic, and age differences to reach a wide range of viewers. FHP is an outgrowth of the documentary film, The Weather Underground.

To enhance its mission to educate, enlighten, and entertain by pushing the limits of documentary, FHP provides assistance on a sliding scale. FHP offers consultations to independent filmmakers about any phase of the filmmaking process and strategies to help people critically engage with film and media.

Not Without Us: Kandi Mossett Short Film
Kandi Mossett of the Indigenous Environmental Network was one of the eight characters highlighted in the feature length documentary, Not Without Us. The film follows grassroots activists to the UN Climate talks in Paris. As part of the outreach plan and follow up to our character's stories, we are creating short films focused on their individual stories. Kandi's involvement as a water protector at DAPL is a powerful follow up.
