Urban Tilth

Urban Tilth hires and trains local residents to cultivate agriculture in west Contra Costa County to help our community build a more sustainable, healthy, and just food system.

Founded in 2005, Urban Tilth has emerged as a local leader, a catalyst drawing together a variety of individual, discrete initiatives into a web of integrated, food- and community-focused efforts.

Just Transition: Creating a New Economic Future in Richmond
This project will build the base of the Our Power Community and Campaign in Richmond while developing the local Just Transition Platform, help to create a national Food Sovereignty Platform for the Climate Justice Alliance, and continue to implement the food and economic development related projects called for in the draft Just Transition platform. In order to continue to broaden the Our Power base, we will redesign our Summer Apprentice Program to include direct participation in the Our Power Festival, cross organizational training of our apprentices and staff in organizing principles by CJA partners and Our Power trainings for our Richmond High class and Verde Elementary parents and youth in our leadership program. We also see an opportunity to deepen our partnership with Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN) members by hosting exchanges between our supporters and APEN members at the Verde garden.
